1977-1979
The air terminal complex construction
In 1977 the construction of a new airport “Minsk-2” was started on the outskirts of the capital of Belarus. In 1979 a new runway with length 3640 m and width 60 m was put into operation. In 1982 the first passenger flight was operated by TU-134 plane under the command of Crew Chief Vasiliy Tolstik. 11 years later the airport construction was completed.
1983-1990
Scheduled flight
Scheduled flight operations had begun from July1 983 and already by 1990 total passenger traffic reached 2.2 million. However, due to the Soviet Union’s disintegration in 1991 and the changes that followed this historical event, the flights quantity decreased.
On 27th of March 1989 the first international flight to Berlin was operated from «Minsk-2» airport.
1997-2000
Minsk National Airport
The status of «National» was granted to «Minsk-2» airport.
The capital’s airport was included to “Airport” Association of the CIS Civil Aviation.
Republican Unitary Enterprise “Minsk National Airport” became a legal successor of an independent enterprise “Airport Minsk-2”.
At the same time cutting-edge “Siemens” lighting facilities for the runway, allowing aircraft landing approach according to ICAO CAT 2, were put into operation in the airport.
2005-2007
ISO 9001
Minsk National Airport started step by step work on creation and implementation of quality management system of the enterprise according to the requirements of the international standard ISO 9001.
At the same time the area of this systemextension has been identified, and it is aprovision of aviation servicesfor airlines, passengers and other customersin aviationsphere, ensuring securityand regularityofflights:
- aircrafthandling;
- passengers and baggagehandling;
- air cargo and mail handling;
- cateringprovision;
- radio-technical flight support;
- electrical, technical and lighting flight support;
- airfield flight support;
- provision of special vehicles and ramp mechanization vehicles;
- emergency-rescue and fire-fighting flight support.
2008
The first million of passengers was handledsince the USSR’s disintegration
SITA CUTE (Common use terminal equipment)was implemented.
The system provides fast, comfortable way to check-in, manages the processes of standardand self-check-in. Thanks to using of sucha platform airport has reached the international standards of airlines handling and enhanced the level of airport’s clients handling.
2009
«Prospectively Developing Airport»
National Airport Minsk received the certificate of Appreciation «Winner in nomination «Prospectively Developing Airport» of “Airport” Association
National Airport Minskbecame a Laureate of the Republic of Belarus Government Award for progress in the sphere of quality, and in 2014 and in 2017 confirmed a Laureate title. The Certificate was presented to the enterprise for introduction of high-impact quality management methods.
2013-2014
The aviation security instructors of Minsk National Airport acquired ICAO Regional Office certificates
Minsk National Airport met the two millionth passenger. Such an impressive result in the Airport’s history was achieved way back in Soviet timesfor the last time.
Minsk National Airport became a winner of «Airport of the year of the CIS countries» competition in 2013,which washeld by “Airport” Association of the CIS Civil Aviationon the yearly base.
Cargo complex of RUE “Minsk National Airport” was reorganized to Transport-Logistics Center, which provided freight forwarding services, warehousing services, assistance in customs clearance and cargo handling.
The end of the year was marked with an important event in the life of Minsk National Airport – the air-terminal complex reconstruction had been completed.
2015
RUE “Minsk National Airport” became a member of International Airports Association
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) certified theaviation security training center of RUE “Minsk National Airport” as ICAO Aviation Security Training Center with a certificate of assignment of this status.
Aviation enterprise received the official certificate about awarding with “4 stars” rating according to the results of survey of 32 airports fromthe Russian Federation regions and the Republic of Belarus, implemented by sectorial agency “AviaPort” (the Russian Federation).
At Minsk National Airport there was a grand opening of ICAO Training Center with the participation of representatives from ICAO Headquarters (Canada), ICAO Regional Office (France), heads of aviation authorities and heads of similar centers from European and North Atlantic regions, ministries representatives, heads of aviation organizations and aviation security services of Belarus.
2016-2017
Three and four millionth passenger
On November 10, 2016 for the first time in the history of civil aviation of the Republic of Belarus, National Airport Minsk met its three millionth passenger.
Beginning of realization of the important project on the national level - the construction of а second paved runway with auxiliary units for critical aircraft А-380 and equipment for the precision approach according to ICAO САТ IIIAat National Airport Minsk.
2018-2019
Award Winner of the CIS Competition for products and services quality
National Airport Minsk was recognized as Award Winner of the CIS Competition for products and services quality, which was the most prestigious award in the CIS. This award was presentedfor the best organizations and enterprises, which have reached the high level of products and services.
In the end of the year Minsk Airport reached the new high score in passengers handling and crossed the figure of 4.5 million passengers a year.
National Airport Minsk won the award of Eurasian Competition in the sphere of aviation marketing of 2018 year in the category “The Airport of a year”.
In 2019:
On the 4th of April the technical flight was successfully operated from the new runway.
On the 3rd of May the inauguration of the second runway was held with participation of the President of the Republic of Belarus A.G. Lukashenko. The new runway was introduced into service.
On the basis of the report of analytical company OAG National Airport Minsk got the first place for punctuality of flights in 2018 in TOP-20 among all the airports in the world in nomination “Airport with 2.5 – 5 mln handled passengers a year”. The punctuality rate was 92.35%.
National Airport Minsk became a winner in nomination “The best airport of the CIS countries” for the results of work in 2018 and got a Cup and Honorary Certificate from “Airport” Association of the CIS Civil Aviation.
National Airport Minsk was the official Object of “II European Games 2019” in Minsk.
