The historical materials say that the date for the holiday was established on the basis of the Decree of Council of People's Commissars of BSSR that was adopted in 1933, according to which the Minsk airport was opened and the regular air service began.

The first flight from Minsk to Moscow took place on November 7, 1933, the opening day of the airport. This date became the starting point of the development of the civil aviation of Belarus. In November 1998 the occupational holiday of the Belarusian aviators – The Day of the Civil Aviation workers was established by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus, A. Lukashenko.

For 80 years the aviators of the Republic have passed a respectable way both on the ground and in the sky constantly making a significant contribution to the development of the civil aviation either in peacetime or wartime. We cannot but mention their services for the repulse of the fascist attack during the Great Patriotic War.

In the Soviet Union time the Belarusian civil aviation authority used to be the best among the USSR civil aviation authorities. When Belarus became an independent state the role and responsibility of all the domestic air enterprises had grown considerably. National Airport Minsk is among these enterprises.

By the way, the team of the main air gateway meets the present glorious anniversary with considerable progress.

“This year we approach the mark of 2.2 million passengers. This is the result of 1991 – underlines the Managing Director of RUE “National Airport Minsk” Dmitry Melikian. The annual growth in air passenger numbers makes up 20%.”

The reconstruction of the airport remains the main news for National Airport Minsk. “We want to reach the comfort we have been dreaming about for a long time”, - said the Managing Director.
